May 14, 2013, the lineup for this year’s, “Rock The Bells” festival was released. Rakim, Juicy J, Wu-Tang, Black Hippy and Danny Brown were announced as performers for this years event. Along with this announcement the Guerilla Union also announced the “original digital performance” appearances by Ol’ Dirty Bastard (ODB) to perform with the Wu-Tang Clan and Eazy-E to perform with Bone Thugs-N-Harmony. Just days after this major announcement, that lineup may have hit a snag. Icelene Jones, widow of Ol’ Dirty Bastard is disappointed. As the administrator of the estate of ODB, Jones is the only person who may approve the use of ODB’s likeness. To which she says she wasn’t aware of the festival’s plans until hearing about the usage just days ago. At a recent press conference Icelene said, “I am disappointed that Rock the Bells would not contact me directly about the use of my husband’s image,” Icelene Jones also included in her statement. “I am looking forward to talking to Wu-Tang about this matter and coming up with a positive solution in order to bring my husband to the stage once again.”
ODB’s son Young Dirty Bastard (YDB) has performed at this festival several times in the past and it seems Icelene’s agenda may be aimed at getting her son back on the bill. We do not know of any reason as to why YDB isn’t on the bill, but we’ve learned of his interest to perform alongside his uncle, Wu-Tang Clan member The Rza. Until a resolution can be found, the estate has issued a cease and desist order against the Rock the Bells organizers.
At the press conference to announce the lineup, the head of Guerilla Union’s, Chang Weisberg was accompanied by ODB’s mother, Cherry Jones. The relationship between Icelene and Cherry has been documented as tumultuous since the passing of ODB. According to reports dating back to 2004, feuds have been ongoing regarding ODB’s estate because a will was never prepared. No statements have been made as of yet from Cherry Jones regarding the cease and desist order, but we here at WHIHH.com will follow up with updates.
