Artist Mike G Exclusive Interview with WHATSHOTINHIPHOP
WHIHH: In brief, tell us how you came to be part of the music industry and was music always your goal?
Mike G: It happened by chance. I always loved music so I knew music was going to remain a big part of my future. I was a behind the scenes type of individual; Networking & Making Moves. With time, the opportunity presented itself and I took it and ran with it. Its been #Gmuzik every since.
WHIHH: What’s your motto or the advice you live by when it comes to your craft?
Mike G: Success is the Sweetest Revenge
WHIHH: Where do you draw inspiration from when you write your music and what’s your favorite part about the process?
Mike G: Its all on the moment. I allow the Music to take me to where it wants. Being creative to me can’t be pre-meditated. What ever I’m feeling at that very second is what I’m going to write. That’s how all my records come together.
WHIHH: Did you ever think you would get this far in your music career and where do you want this journey to take you?
Mike G: At the very beginning it felt more like a hobby. It wasn’t until I started running into Celebrities who loved my music; that’s when I knew I had something serious. Also when the money was being made from the music. It was then I knew it went from just a hobby to a career. Success comes in all forms. Music is my catapult into other opportunities & endeavors. As time comes I will make my choices to where exactly I want to head to. As long as its success I’m with it!!!!!
WHIHH: Let’s talk about your music video “Pressure” and the lyrical content. Give us an insight into the creative process and why you believe many will identify with this sound from the gritty streets of Miami, FL.?
Mike G: Shout out to Jay Run the Producer of the record. Once he played it for me in the studio it gave me an aggressive feeling, so I wrote to the song with the mentality of attacking the industry. Meaning not waiting for my opportunity to blow, but to take my opportunity. By applying Pressure. The Streets loved the record so I filmed the video for it with Director Edgar Esteves and the rest was history. We did like 100k views on worldstarhiphop.com in 3 Days.
WHIHH: Explain your overall sound in 5 words:
Mike G: I wouldn’t say 5 words. I’d say just one word “VISUAL”. When u hear me, you see what I’m talking about. I like to make music where you can recreate a situation in your own mind. When you go through my records and listen closely, you will see that I illustrate with my music. I give you visual content.
WHIHH: If I was to turn on your ipod right now, what five artists/songs would I see on your recently played list?
Mike G: Outkast, Al Green, Tupac Shakur, Scarface & Notorious B.I.G.
WHIHH: If you could go open up for any artist on tour right now who would it be?
Mike G: Whoever cuts the biggest Check. Lol. It wouldn’t matter to me. $$ is the motive. There are quite a few artist doing big things whose music I’m a fan of. I respect their grind and f*cks with their music. As long as you remain a real N*gga, humble and hungry; lets make #powermoves.
WHIHH: What is your favorite thing to do when you are not doing music?Mike G: Networking. There are really no days off in this game. When I’m not in the studio, I’m networking. One of my homies always says networking iscurrency, so you got to stay out here and keep yourself in the right places, that’s how doors open.
WHIHH: Tell us something little known about you like a obsession/ ritual you must have before hitting the stage to perform your music or record in the studio?
Mike G: I use to be into the 50 n*ggas in the studio at the same time vibe, but I learned the hard way that’s a waste of money and too much opinions. Not to mention it messes up my creative flow. I record better by myself or with just one or two of my homies with me. The only thing I want is to hear the beat in the background with silence and my Bottle of Vodka Chilled.WHIHH: What are the five things you can’t live without in terms of your foundation for success in your career and personal growth?
Mike G: God, my small circle of close people I trust, studio, cell phone/email & money.
WHIHH: If you were asked, what artist/song would you choose to belt out at the bar/in the car/for an impromptu karaoke and could probably do very well?
Mike G: Notorious B.I.G – One More Chance. without a doubt.
WHIHH: What message would you give to those who doubt your music, your dreams or longevity in this industry?
Mike G: Why you so mad?? Stop hating and get your money. Period.
WHIHH: What can we expect from you in terms of new music you’re working on?
Mike G: My #Gmuzik Album is out; currently at 60k Downloads. Barbancourt & Bulls*it is a collaboration between my VCR family Money Millz, Jynx13, Jaydoe, Woff & Supreme and myself. Bringing back that Real Street Muzik. It will be dropping within a few months. My second album Voodoo Muzik will be dropping shortly after that.
