Surprise! Queen Bey is at it again…only this time, with no warning…and no marketing plan! Her new album sold 80,000 copies in 3 hours with no promotion beforehand, reinforcing Beyonce‘s status as reigning queen. Her surprise album isn’t just music news, but apparently news-news, being featured on CNN.com. The 14-track self-titled album was released exclusively on iTunes at midnight with no marketing, promotion, or the usual build-up via television, Internet, etc. The album had to be purchased in its totality since singles will not be available for purchase until December 20. In addition to the songs, there are also 17 music videos, making this a visual album. The music industry is clearly changing, but Queen Bey seems to be changing ahead of it. Who needs a marketing plan anyway? This is what’s hot in hip hop.
