In case you missed the awards, have no access to social media, or live on another planet, the 56th annual Grammy Awards took place yesterday, January 26, 2014, at Staples Center in Los Angeles, California. With some heavy hitter performances, unexpected award winners, and crazy fashion styles, social media was flooded with talk of the award show.
Check out the top 3 list of the most talked about Grammy topics, based on my own social media experience! Thank me later 🙂 .
3. Kendrick Lamar: Kendrick Lamar teamed up with an amazing rock band, Imagine Dragons, to deliver one of the best performances of the night! Despite my uncertainty in how it would play out, the performance was so dope, I actually watched it again. Check out the Amazing Performance Here! Kendrick Lamar was also a major topic because although he was nominated for 7 Grammy Awards, he walked away with zero. A sad turn of events in which many feel was a direct result of biased decision making.
2. Jay-z and Beyonce: Personally, I can’t say that the Beyonce and Jay-z performance was all that I hoped it would be. Nor will I say it will be the talk of the future as a memorable performance, but hey, it’s Beyonce and Jay-z, it will make top news either way. It was just great to see them on stage together! That was excitement in itself. Aside from the lusty performance, hip hop artist, Jay-z took home the best rap/sung collaboration for “Holy Grail,” a collaboration with singer, Justin Timberlake, despite a 9 nomination lead. He thanked his “beautiful light” singer, Beyonce, and also said that he just won his daughter Blue Ivy, a new gold sippy cup. And yes, sippy cup was trending on twitter for hours!
1. Pharrell William’s Hat: No, I did not say Pharrell himself, but instead just his hat alone. The hat has managed to have a parody twitter account created and a parody Instagram page, in one night. I am usually a fan of Pharrell‘s fashion sense but this time, I must ask what his thought process was when deciding that hat would be a part of his outfit. Ofcourse, some funny Meme‘s made their way to Instagram. Hilarious!
There were many other popular social media topics, including comedian, Jamie Foxx’s awkward nominee presentation, singer, Lorde’s creepy performance dance moves, the mass wedding ceremony during hip hop artist, Macklemore and Ryan Lewis “Same Sex” performance, and the dope performance by singer, Katy Perry and rapper, Juicy J. However, I just wanted to share a few that made the most noise in the world of social media.
The night’s big winners were, the electric music duo, Daft Punk, producer, Pharrell Williams, and Mackelmore and Ryan Lewis, who all took home 4 awards. Congratulations to all the Grammy winners and nominees!
