Yesterday Sylvia Rhone was appointed president of Epic Records by the label’s chairman and CEO L.A. Reid. Rhone is a vet when it comes to the music business having previously being the chairwoman and CEO of Elektra Entertainment Group in 1994, and would also be named president of Motown Records and executive vice president of Universal Records where she remained until 2011. Rhone already has a working relationship with Epic Records, last year she launched the imprint Vested in Culture (VIC) under the Epic umbrella, which will remain under the label.
Rhone will report to Reid and help supervise the overall management and operations of the label. Announcing Rhone’s new position Reid stated:
“Having worked closely with Sylvia Rhone, I’ve witnessed firsthand how she shares a passion for an artists-first culture. I look forward with genuine enthusiasm to the next chapter of Epic Records.”
Added Rhone, “I’m honored to have the opportunity to expand my relationship with the talented team and amazing artists at Epic. What makes this opportunity different from any other is my partnership with renowned music executive L.A. Reid. I’m looking forward to what I think will be the finest chapter in my career.”
AND of Course “This is WHAT’S HOT IN HIP HOP!
