So for the last 48 hours of my life, I got to be a fly on the wall for the highly anticipated release of “Fat Boy Fresh,” by Bronx’s own Fred the Godson. I was greeted warmly by his whole team. The energy at his private listening party at NYC’s Akoo gallery was electric. The vibes were positive and there was a true sense of support in the room for the event, which was hosted by ThisIs50’s Vivian D. Billings. (IG: @GOSSIPVIV). Hot 97‘s DJ Juanyto was on the decks for the event, joined by DJ Drewski & Dominican Andrew. It was a packed house in support for Fred the Godson’s March 11th release with support from many of the artists featured on the mixtape.
Just the very next night, I was back again to cover the in-store event for the release at 4 U House of Fitted Caps on White Plains Road in the Bronx. That night, I was fortunate enough to not only see Fred the Godson again, but I got to meet his beautiful 3 year old daughter, Sadie. Not gonna lie…she was kind of the highlight of my night.
The in-store was also well attended and had several media outlets, loyal fans, and many familiar faces within the industry. Fred the Godson took time to speak to each person as he signed posters for everyone in attendance. He really took the time to speak to people and listen to what they were saying. It was refreshing to see someone clearly raising the ladder to stardom demonstrate so much humility and kindness.
On a personal note, so far, my favorite song off of “Fat Boy Fresh” is “What They Die For” feat. Jaquae produced by S Dot & Pro. But that’s another blog for another time.
Hats off to the many people behind the scenes of this release who have made it a great success thus far, including TBM Tito, Ray Flores, “Zo” & “Dre” Lebron, Blokwork Music, Chris Singleton, DJ MostWanted, BoyBoy, Carnegie PR, Mocca Brand Media PR, and the whole TBM team, including Fred’s lovely wife, Leeann, a freelance makeup artist, among other hats she wears.
On behalf of What’s Hot in Hip Hop, wishing Fred the Godson all the best and safe travels as he makes his way to the stage at SXSW this week, along with Jaquae. Fred the Godson IS what’s hot in hip hop!
