What’s Hot in Hip Hop attended the exclusive press preview of M.A.F.I.A. Don‘s (previously Junior M.A.F.I.A.) new mixtape, Riding for the King, last night at Daddy’s House Recording Studio in midtown Manhattan in anticipation of today’s release on Datpiff.
The preview was powered by Carnegie Public Relations and sponsored by Double Cross Vodka and SWB Catering. Press, media, bloggers, and other supporters gathered to the front as Mara “The Hip-Hop Socialite” welcomed everyone, alongside members of M.A.F.I.A. Dons.
The press preview included selected tracks by various members of M.A.F.I.A. Dons. The group was energetic and lively as they discussed the tracks.
The mixtape, 14 tracks, was produced by “no big names.” This was something that was emphasized throughout the night, the notion of starting from the bottom with music from the heart, not leaning on their past whatsoever. Junior M.A.F.I.A. debuted their first album, Conspiracy, back in 1995.
Now, M.A.F.I.A. Dons, formed from some of the original members including Lil Cease, Blake C, Banger, & Nino Brown, along with some new faces, is back on the scene and looking to make a name for themselves, without leaning on the notoriety of any of their previous/ present affiliations.
The title of the mixtape, Riding for the King, is a nod to the late Christopher Wallace aka Notorious BIG, who formed Junior M.A.F.I.A. and mentored the group. His influence on the members and their music was evident as they talked about their mentor and friend…their king.
Riding for the King is now available for download on Datpiff.com as of today. You know I had to download it to my collection. Go check it out for yourself and be sure to leave your comments on what YOU think of the mixtape. What’s Hot in Hip Hop wishes all the best to M.A.F.I.A. Dons as they begin a new chapter in their music career.
If it’s not here, it’s not hot. This is what’s hot in hip hop.
