This past Tuesday, What’s Hot in Hip Hop was in the building to show love to the Sophisticated Ignorance Concert Series featuring Ameer & Steelyone. The event was hosted by Marcus Banks and music by Hot 97’s DJ Juanyto.
As I was performing backup vocals for Steelyone, I had some extra insight backstage as the artists and musicians prepared for the show. In true emcee style, a cipher broke out just before the show started. And just like that, the stage was set for these talented artists to do what they do best.
Marcus Banks opened the show with a set of his usual hilarious antics. Loose Canonz took it from there to bring some raw musical energy to the show.
Ameer & Steelyone took the stage together to welcome the crowd. Steelyone performed first with the band., who also accompanied Ameer during the first set. The energy was high as the two performers took the stage with the live band, including Odane Whilby on bass, Duvane Whilby on keys, and Jayare McKenzie on drums, and yours truly on backup vocals.
It was a two set show featuring appearances from Manny YS & Gregg Self on Steel’s music from his latest project, The Dorian Gray Effect, which is now available. The concert series is sponsored by Stainless Global, Surrealist Media Group, & 25th Hour Music.
The show was well attended by fans and media at the legendary Nuyorican Cafe on the lower east side. The Sophisticated Ignorance Concert Series will continue throughout the summer with future dates to be announced. More information about upcoming shows can be found on Steelyone’s web site.
If it’s not here, it’s not hot. This is what’s hot in hip hop!
